Robocare

ROBOCARE is a sovereign healthcare robotics infrastructure operating across Europe's emerging 3D Connectivity Continuum, combining autonomous robotics, edge AI, federated learning, contactless patient sensing, and secure clinical data interoperability.

Contactless Patient Monitoring

At the core of ROBOCARE's sensing capability is MARCHESE, a CERN-developed contactless health monitoring system integrated into the robotic platform.

Using thermal imaging, radar sensing, and AI-powered visual analysis, ROBOCARE continuously monitors patients without cables, wearables, or physical contact. The system continuously tracks:

  • Heart rate
  • Respiratory and oxygen rate
  • Body temperature
  • Movement and gait patterns
  • Signs of distress, agitation, confusion, or wandering

ROBOCARE operates day and night, including low-light conditions, and can monitor multiple patients simultaneously. When early signs of deterioration are detected, such as respiratory decline, falls, unusual inactivity, or abnormal physical patterns, the system will be able to predict the patient status and generate real-time alerts to healthcare professionals to support earlier intervention and safer care delivery.

Intelligent Clinical Companion for Physicians

During patient rounds, ROBOCARE acts as an intelligent clinical companion by providing physicians with real-time and historical summaries of patient vital sign trends, behavioral changes, and anomalies detected between visits.

This allows clinicians to identify hidden deterioration risks that may not appear during manual bedside checks while reducing the need to manually search through fragmented records. Observations, alerts and follow-up instructions integrate directly into hospital EHR and clinical workflow systems through Bavel, reducing administrative burden and improving decision-making at the point of care.

Autonomous Smart Care Housing & Residential Support

Beyond hospitals, ROBOCARE enables autonomous residential care services in:

  • Elderly homes
  • Senior living communities
  • Accessible apartments
  • Rehabilitation residences
  • Disability-support housing
  • Industrialized smart housing ecosystems

The platform supports meal delivery, medication adherence, caregiver alerts, indoor logistics, and independent living enablement while reducing caregiver workload and operational pressure.

Privacy-By-Design Infrastructure

All patient data is processed locally within the facility using privacy-by-design principles supported by Bavel Health's federated infrastructure and Virtual Research Room technology, in compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and EHDS requirements.

  • No identifiable images and data are stored
  • Patient data never leaves the facility
  • Federated AI infrastructure maintains institutional data sovereignty

ROBOCARE is particularly relevant for countries, where aging demographics, accessibility challenges, healthcare workforce shortages, and rising operational costs are creating urgent demand for scalable care infrastructure.

ROBOCARE transforms robotics from simple logistics automation into a continuous intelligent care presence that monitors, alerts, assists, and informs while always keeping healthcare professionals fully in control of clinical decisions.
